A graduate of the Glasgow school of art, Jimmie Macgregor has worked as a schoolteacher, quarryman, mortuary attendant, folk musician, potter, illustrator and radio and television presenter. Hugely influential in the folk music revival, he has toured the world, appearing in countless venues from the Albert and Festival halls to the smallest folk clubs. With more than 20 record albums to his credit, he has composed and played theme music for radio and television. His double award winning radio programme ran 5 days per week for over 10 years, and his radio and television programmes on long distance walks and wildlife were extremely popular.

Jimmie is a fellow of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, a life member of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, the Scottish Wildlife Trust, the Friends of Loch Lomond, and the John Muir Trust. He is also president of Rural Scotland and Friends of the River Kelvin. He was presented by Prince Charles with an award for services to wildlife, and was made an M.B.E. by the queen for services to Scottish Heritage and Culture. Canadian tourist Board and High Commission named Macgregor’s Gathering best Canadian radio programme of 1990. Jimmie Macgregor currently presents a series of illustrated talks based on his walks for radio and television.

An enthusiast and, indeed, polymath in all things Scottish, his contributions to Burns and St. Andrew's Nights are legendary.
